Trey Songz was born in 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. When he was a teen, he participated in many musical programs but never wanted to get a career in music. Around in 2000, he participated in a talents show, although he was totally reluctant about it. The show was a great show at that time. Troy Taylor, the producer of the show, highlighted this young artist. Two years later, Trey Songz got a deal with Atlantic Music Group and moved to New Jersey. In New Jersey, he started working for his first debut release.
At the time of working on his solo album, he came up with some mixtapes. Finally he released "I Gotta Make It" in 2004, featuring Aretha Franklin, Twista and Juvenile. This album climbed to a top position on Billboard Hot 200. "Gotta Go" as well as "Gotta Make It" were two great songs from "I Gotta Make It". This album sold great number of copies and rose high on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Around in 2009, Songz came up with “Ready”. This album sold very well. More than 131,000 copies of the album were sold in the first week of its release. This album raised his status quite high. He became one of the best DJs. For his works, he got nomination in the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.
He toured many different places and participated in great shows. He even toured with Jay-Z for the rapper's opening act all through the year.
He worked for his fourth album, "Passion, Pain & Pleasure" and released it in 2010. For this release, he could travel North America with Monica. He got engaged into various musical projects there including soundtrack for movie "Step Up 3-D".
