About Theory of a Deadman

Formed in 2001, Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian modern rock band from British Colombia. Fashioned in the post-grunge era, the group garnered mainstream success through the 2000-2009 decade. Similar bands include ShinedownHinderDefault, and 3 Doors Down. Leading the group is front man, Tyler Connolly with Dave Brenner supplying the back-up guitar support. Their rhythm section made changes over the years; however, since 2003 it has held steady with bassist Dean Back and drummer Joey Dandeneau.

In 2001, Theory of a Deadman’s lead singer Tyler Connolly attended a Nickelback after show party. At the festivities, he gave his demo to Nickleback singer Chad Kroeger, which also owned 604 records. Kroeger liked the music and immediately signed Theory to their first record deal. The group began working on their self-titled debut album. On September 17, 2002, the record dropped and garnered modest success. Theory continued performing live shows until returning to the studio to work on their next album, Gasoline.

In 2005, the album released and gained more commercial success than the previous. Theory followed by touring with Shinedown and No Address. After that tour they jumped on another one with Breaking Benjamin and The Exies. In 2006, they took a short break to record the theme song to WWE’s No Way Out. One year later, the band returned to the studio to record their third album, Scars and Souvenirs. Although other singles did well “Bad Girlfriend” and “Hate My Life” became the biggest hits on the record.

Theory of a Deadman followed their release with another tour with eighties rockers Motley Crue. The rising band also performed the half-time show at the 96th Grey Cup. They continued performing until their 2011 release of The Truth Is… under Roadrunner Records. The first single “Lowlife” dropped in May receiving modest praise. Again, the band went on the road, this time with Alter Bridge and Black Stone Cherry to promote their new album. In early 2014, Tyler Connolly announced that Theory of a Deadman would have a new CD ready by summer. The single “Drown” is currently on YouTube for listeners to preview.
