About The Prodigy

The Prodigy is a popular English electronic music band pioneered by Howlett in 1990. The group members are Howlett, Flint, Crabtree, Holliday, and Maxim. They originally had a female vocalist and dancer, Sharky, but she left right away in their first years. The band’s name was chosen by Howleet to commemorate his first analogue synthesizer, Moog Prodigy.

Together with  Fatboy Slim and other personalities, the band has been given recognition as the very first to discover the big beat music and has achieved great popularity and support from the public between 1990s and year 2000. Reflecting their success were the million copies of albums sold across nations.

It doesn't end there. The Prodigy also won several awards all throughout their career. Among the most notable ones include 2 Best British Dance Act, 3 MTV Video Music awards, 5 MTV  Europe Music awards, 2 Kerrang awards, and a 2 time nominations in the very prestigious Grammy awards.

The group plays different kinds of music, from break beat, rave, techno, and jungle during the early 90s to electronic rock and big beat with punk vocals recently. They first became popular on the rave genre and since then, their popularity is just unstoppable.

First Exposure

Howlett made an initial 10 track trial, put together on a music work area in  England. XL recordings liked the demo and it was the beginning of The Prodigy’s career. “What Evil Lurks” was released in 1991.

Soon after, the band made their first public performance in Dalston,  London.

Their next album called “Charly” was immediately released a year after. It was also a huge hit in the rave industry. The album ranked 3rd in the UK Singles Chart, making the group even more popular. Their Kaos Theory compilation, featuring “G Force” was their next hit.

After “Charly” was brought out in the market, the charts have included different rave music that includes cartoon samples. In here, clubbers would give a good dance, but this didn’t do well according to reviews then. Some examples of the tracks include A Trip to Trumpton, Sesame’s Treet, and more.

Because of that, Charly, amid being titled after a reference to cocaine, with its unforgettable sample of Charley Says, viewers have identified the group’s music as kiddie rave. It was not all success for the group, but their passion for music has stood the test of time. And true enough, their worth in this business and they will continue to make music for the fans to love.
