Formed in 2009, The Pretty Reckless are a modern rock band from New York City, New York. Their influences include Oasis, Joan Jett, and Nirvana. The group began when actress Taylor Momsen met producer Kato Khandwala. Momsen wanted to lead a rock band, and Khandwala was the man to assist. He introduced her to Ben Phillips and the trio began writing music and recording. In May 2009, the band performed their first show at The Annex in New York. After 7 shows and member changes, the group settled down and added guitarist John Secolo. Later, Bassist Matt Chiarelli, and drummer Nick Carbone provided the rhythm section. The group played one year, opening for The Veronicas, before Carbone and Chiarelli departed and Jamie Perkins and Mark Damon replaced them.
In Late 2009, Momsen announced the bands signing with Interscope Records and pre-released a promotional song titled, “Make Me Wanna Die.” Later, the song officially released as their first single appearing on the film Kick Ass. The song gained mixed reviews; yet, brought attention to the up and coming act. Before the album dropped, the group performed at the Vans Warped Tour and The Bamboozie music festival.
On August 10, 2010, Light Me Up dropped and received modest commercial success. The Pretty Reckless released two songs in Australia and the UK before releasing anything in the US. “Miss Nothing” and “Light Me Up” were the first to drop putting the group back on the Vans Warped Tour. Once they finished, the group embarked on their first worldwide tour with Evanescence. During which, The Pretty Reckless performed at the historic Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Their success continued and in 2012, the band released 2 more singles from their album, “U” and “My Medicine.” Afterwards, the group headlined their first tour to support their 2 year old record and dropped Frankenweenie Unleashed. The music appeared on the film Frankenweenie, which is where it got its name. While on the road, The Pretty Reckless released their EP Hit Me Like a Man and their single “Kill Me,” which appeared on the television show Gossip Girl.
In 2013, the group dropped their next album Going to Hell. The new project featured popular single’s “Going to Hell,” and “Heaven Knows.” The latter being their most successful song to date. Later that fall, The Pretty Reckless began their Going to Hell tour in support of their album. They are currently preparing for their fall worldwide tour.
