About The Police

Is an English rock band formed in 1977 in London, UK, The Police is a multi awarded and ultra successful and globally popular band considered as one of the first new wave groups in the late 1970s to achieve mainstream success. The Police was considered as one of the second batch of leaders of British Invasion. The band is a premiere trio of talents with strong musical background. It consists of Sting as the lead vocalist and bass artist, Andy Summers for guitar and Steward Copeland for Drums. Sting is the most popular of the trio and has the most successful solo career. The band plays a style of rock that was heavily influence by punk, reggae and jazz. In 1978, they released their debut album, “Outlandos D’ Amor” on A&M records. It rapidly topped the chart with hits like “Roxanne” and “So Lonely”. The year 1979 is year that gave the group their first Grammy. “Regatta De Blanch” was released and became chart topper followed by another string of success from “Message in a Bottle” and “Walking in the Moon”. 1980 was even better for the trio because of not one but two Grammy awards. “Zenyetta Mondatta” was behind that and the top notched hits “Don’t Stand So close To Me” and “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”. In 1981, the band gets even luckier this time for “Ghost in the Machine” with peaked sales of double platinum with hit singles “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” and “Spirits in the Material World”. After a year of hiatus, the members reunited and record Synchronicity, helping them to earned this time not one or two but three Grammy awards. The best is yet to come for the band until it lavishly produced “Every Breath You Take”. It is responsible for cementing the group’s universal success. The awards they received became more common for the band. They’ve been there and done that from Grammy to Brit Award to platinum commercial success to conquering global performing arena. And in 1986, the members parted ways and launched their solo careers. Early of the following year the pieces of puzzle is formed again for their “30th anniversary reunion” one–off world tour lasting until August 2008.
