The Cardigans is a rock band formed on 1992 in Jonkoping, Sweden. It comprises with Nina Persson (Lead Vocalist), Peter Svensson (Guitarist), Bengt Lagerberg (Drummer), Magnus Sveningsson (Bassist), Lars- Olof Johansson (Keyboardist). They released many albums under the MCA, Mercury, Minty Fresh, Paus and Brothers of End Records in which they produced alternative, pop, indie rock music. They were discovered by Ola Hermanson and eventually they signed a recording contract on Trampolene Labels.
In their starting point they released their debut album called “Emmerdale” on February 18, 1994 and May 18, 1999 in US through Trampolene Records, Stockholm and Minty Fresh Records. The album was produced by Tore Johansson that comprises of 12 tracks and it was ranked at number 27 in Sweden Albums Chart. Followed by their 2nd album called “Life” that was launch on March 1, 1995 by Stockholm Records that contains “Carnival”, “Fine” and “Tomorrow”. Some tracks were translated in many version including UK, French, Brazilian as well as Canadian Version and it was featured on 1997 movie Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, 1996 Love and Other Catastropes and in episode of Daria (MTV Animated series).
As they go on with their career, the band launched more albums including “First Band on the Moon” in 1996 along with “Gran Turismo” that was out on 1998. But in the year 2000, the band came to a decision that they will take their rest. However, some members had their individual projects in which they worked in many artists separately and after 2 years of long wait they were reunited and back on their tracks as a band in which they released their comeback album called “Long Gone Before Daylight” in the year 2003 and “Super Extra Gravity” in 2005. The entire released had been successful all throughout its released and they received more attention in some label, producers as well as their fans.
The band leaves a marked in their performances including in Summer Sonic Rock Festival in Japan, Moscow’s Stadium, Tel Aviv’s Ganei HaTa’arukha along side in Jakarta and Taiwan. The Cardigans received lots of awards including the Album of the Year, Pop/Rock Group of the Year in Grammis Awards in 1998, Album of the year and Rock-Group of the year, Best Video for the “You’re the Storm” in Swedish Grammy Awards. They will continue their journey, as the band will pursue their desire in releasing album and performed in many countries as well.
