About Tech N9ne

Born in 1971, Aaron Dontez Yates (Tech N9ne) is hip-hop artist from Kansas City, Missouri. Known for mixing speedy lyrics with a growling voice, Tech N9ne separated himself in the 2000-2009 decade from other rap artist. Yates’s style is similar to the sound of DMX, Busta Rhymes, Ritz, Krizz Kaliko, and Steve Stone. Associated acts include The Regime, Big Scoob, and Jay Rock.

Yates spent the early 90s performing with different groups and changing labels. He gained modest success during this time and made many connections. One, collaboration featured many hit artist including Eminem, Xzibit, and RZA. After gaining a small following, Yates created his first record label, Strange Music.

In 2001, Yates battled with his former label JCOR and decided to leave the company. Soon after, he dropped his record, Anghellic under his own label. The album did well for the up-and-coming artist and scored him a respectable spot on billboard charts. He spent the next few years supporting the record, and then returned to the studio. In 2006, the rapper released his follow-up, Misery Loves Company. From that point, he began collaborating and recording most of the time. Yates followed the next year, by releasing another album titled, Killer. It failed to garner much mainstream success, yet, gained respect in rap circles.

In 2009, Tech N9ne teamed with many hit artist and dropped, Sickology 101. He followed by touring in the US, making notable stops at the Rock the Bells Festival. Yates battled family issues the next few years and spent excessive amounts of time in the studio. It resulted in a series of releases by the artist including K.O.D., The Lost Scripts of K.O.D., The Gates Mixed Plate, and All Sixes and Sevens.

Yates spent the past few years working on his collaboration, K.A.B.O.S.H. It featured more hit artist including Jay-Z and Rick Ross. The album dropped in 2012 and received critical and commercial acclaim. Since, Yates has worked on several collaborations and music projects. The singer finished his 2014 spring tour in June. Tech N9ne is currently on tour making notable stops in Atlanta, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida.
