Stereophonics is a rock band formed in South Wales in 1992. They were originally the teenage cover band “Tragic Love Company”.
Current members are “Kelly Jones” (vocals, guitars, keyboard), “Richard Jones” (bass, guitar, piano, backing vocals), “Adam Zindani” (guitar, backing vocals) and “Jamie Morrison” (drums). Former members are “Stuart Cable” (drums, percussion) and “Javier Weyler” (drums, percussion).
The members have known one another since toddlers in their hometown in Cwmaman.
The band’s debut single “Looks Like Chaplin/More Life in a Tramp’s Vest was released in November 1996. The group’s debut album “Word Gets Around” was released in 1997. It made number 6 in the UK charts, went gold and also made them to be the major British pop band. This album was promoted using the single “Local Boy in the Photograph” which also achieved the top fourteen in the UK charts. In 1998 the group was awarded for Best Newcomer given by BRITS Award.
In 1999, the album “Performance and Cocktails” was released and has sold over nine million copies worldwide. It also achieved a total of top ten singles with its main single “The Bartender and the Thief” which made number three to UK charts. It was followed by the third album “Just Enough Education to Perform” which includes the Song “Have a Nice Day”. This song made number five to UK charts. The fourth album “You Gotta Go There to Come Back” was released in 2003.
In 2005, the fifth album “Language. Sex. Violence. Other” was released with its carrier single “Dakota”. For the first time, the group achieved to have a number one hit in UK singles chart.
The group was included to the groups to achieve five successive number one albums in UK. That was after “Pull the Pin” was released in 2007.
The group’s Best of Compilation “A Decade in the Sun” sold over a million copies when it was released in 2008.
In 2009. the group released their seventh album which is “Keep Calm and Carry On”. It includes the songs “Innocent” and “Could You Be The One”. Throughout their career, they were able to perform in US, Australia and Europe where they were praised for their performances.
Considered as the greatest group of their generation, Stereophonics has battled their way to the peak through a mixture of tough work and a thirst for mainstream adoption. Stereophonics is one of the most accomplished rock performers in Wales.
