About Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg, or Calvin Cordozar Broadus in real life, was born in  Long Beach, California on October 20, 1971. He is a popular rap artist , but he was also seen doing stints in Hollywood films and television shows. He finished his high school studies but did not continue to college. His stage name was taken from his mother who thought he resembled the cartoon character Snoopy.

Snoop Dogg as an Artist

The career of Snoop Dogg in the hip-hop and rap music industry began in 1992 when he met  Dr. Dre, a famous rapper. He collaborated with Dr. Dre prior to having his solo album. He was able to release his debut album entitled Doggy style in 1993 which became a big hit mainly through the hit tracks “What’s My Name” and “Gin and Juice”. The album reached the top spot in the Billboard’s Hip-hop Chart on the week of its release.

After the success of Doggystyle, Snoop Dogg completed his next albums entitled Tha Doggfather (1996), Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000), among others. One of the most recent hit single of Snoop Dogg was the song “Drop it Like it’s Hot” which was first aired in 2004 and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in December of the same year.

Aside from making music, Snoop Dogg appeared in several films including Starsky & Hutch (2004) and Scary Movie 5 (2013). He has also made his mark in television shows, the most notable of which will be Snoop Dogg's Father Hood first aired in 2007.

Life outside the Limelight Even before Snoop became a big artist, there are already instances of criminal charges filed against him as he was already convicted for possessing cocaine in 1990. Few years later, he was accused for the murder of a gang member who was gunned down by someone from the same car that Snoop was riding in. Snoop was later acquitted from the accusation. In April 2006, Snoop Dogg and his team were arrested in a London Airport due to scuffles in the terminal. Because of this, Snoop was not able to perform in a live show in Johannesburg. During the same year, Snoop Dogg was also arrested in an airport in California after police officers allegedly found a firearm and marijuana in his car.

These instances proved that Snoop Dogg has a not-so-normal life, both inside and outside of the entertainment industry.
