Helen Folasade Adu also known as Sade is a singer, songwriter, producer and composer that was born on January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. He was a member of the group Sade in which they won the BRIT and Grammy Awards and Helen was 6x nominated in BRIT Award for Best British Female. She was also included in VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music that ranked at number 30.
Helen joined a band called Pride while she was studying in college at Saint Martin’s School of Art. She caught the eyes of recording companies through her solo performances when she sang “Smooth Operator” and eventually she signed a recording contract with Epic Records together with Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale as well as Paul Denman.
In 1984, she got her first debut album called “Diamond Life” that was released on July 16, 1984 through Epic Records and produced by Robin Millar. She won as Best British Album by BRIT Award in 1985 and it sold a million copies worldwide. Her 2nd album was “Promise” in 1985 along with “Stronger than Pride” (1988) and next was “Love Deluxe” in 1992.
In 2000, she released “Lovers Rock” that was out on 13th of November and it produced by Mike Pela and herself. The album was recognized a Certified 3x Platinum by RIAA that sold a 3.96 million copies and she got the Best Pop Vocal Album in Grammy Award.
In the other hand, Helen participated in “Absolute Beginners”, it was a rock musical film inspired by Colin MacInnes book. She portrayed the role of Athene Duncannon in which she showed more of his talent as a singer and actress. She also released a compilation album including the “The Best of Sade” subsequently was “Bring Me Home Live 2011”, ‘The Ultimate Collection” and the “Lovers Live”.
While in the year 2010, she launched her 6th studio album entitled “Soldier Love” on February 5, 2010 by RCA and Epic Records. The album was recorded in Real World Studio in England and Spain as well in the year 2009 that contains 10 tracks. It was peaked at number 1 in Billboard 200 and sold 502,000 on its first week in US. it was also received the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by Duo or a group with vocals and she promoted their concert tour after a long wait and it was called “Sade Live”. Helen was ranked in one of the most promising singer in music industry which leave a legacy that all her fans knows her contribution in music.
