Forming in 2002, One Republic is a folksy-Americana band originating from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Although original members Ryan Tedder and Zack Filkins met at a young age and exhibited exceptional talent, the duo didn’t begin their career until reuniting in Los Angeles, California.
In 2003, the tandem had a stroke of luck when famous actress Kelly Barrett noticed the band and phoned her cousin, Sony President Jimmy Lenner. The band quickly inked a record deal and began working on their first album. After deciding that Tedder would lead the band, they kept Filkins on guitar and added drummer Eddie Fisher and bassist Brent Kutzle to the mix. On November 20, 2007, their first record dropped with mixed reviews.
Dreaming out Loud was slow to catch the mainstream eye; however, the release of hit single “Apologize” changed all of that. With the help of Timberland's remix, the single sold over three million copies and earned a Grammy nomination. The tune also scored on the road, as fans sang along every night while One Republic captivated audiences.
After releasing a single in 2008, the quartet returned to the studio and in 2010 dropped, Waking Up. The album received the same mixed reviews as their first; however, the group continued their success. Appealing to female audiences, One Republic’s music was featured on many major motion films and televisions series. This helped them add to their already growing popularity and kept them busy for a few years.
In 2013, Native released and shot the band into superstardom. The group released the first two singles to moderate success; however, neither became as successful as their third single “Counting Stars.” The hit became hugely popular receiving nominations for many different awards. After the album hit the stores, One Republic went on a worldwide tour making stops in Austria, Germany, Israel and many other parts of the globe. In 2014, the group released their single “Love Runs Out,” and is currently preparing for their upcoming summer tour.
