About Of Monsters and Men


Of Monsters and Men is an indie folk-pop band formed on 2010 in Iceland. The members are Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir(lead singer, guitarist),Ragnar "Raggi" Þórhallsson (guiatist, vocals), Brynjar Leiofsson (guitarist), Arnar Rosenkranz Hilmarsson (drummer) and Kristjan Pall Kristjansson (bassist). They were started during 2009 when Nanna joined the Songbird. Of Monsters and men and eventaully they fit together and formed the "Of Monsters and Men".

They released their first studio album called "My Heads Is an Animal" on 20th of September 2011 through Record, Republic and that was produced by Aron Arnarsson and Jacquire King along with the band itself. It comprises 11 tracks including the singles "Dirty Pawns", "King and Lionheart" and "Little Talks". The album peaked at number one in Irish Albums Chart, Icelandic Albums Chart as well as in US Alternative Albums and US Rock Albums. It was recognized as Certified Gold Records in Germany and Ireland while Platinum Record in US and Australia. In the same year, he also released an Ep called "Into the Woods" on 20th of December through Republic Records that reached number 108 in US Billboard 200.

After the released of their 2nd album they performed in Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island that was held on July 29, 2012 as well as in Osheaga Festival in Montreal, Lollapalooza on August 5, 2012 in Chicago. Plus, they also performed in Sweden, Germany, Italy and Ireland as well.

Their first live album called "Live from Vatnagardar" that was launched on 10th of December 2013 by Republic Records was recorded in Studio Syrland, Reykjavik in which it consists of "Mountain Sound", "Skeletons" and "King and Lions Heart". Their song "Little Talks" is a new rendition and they played it in North American Tour on the month of May and June 2013. Some of the bans songs were featured in some movie film like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as well as in the trailer of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The band received a nomination in MTV Video Music Awards as Best Art Direction for the "Little Talks". MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Push Act, plus ECHO Awards for Best International Newcomer adn Best International Rock/Pop Group through their album My Head Is an Animal along with JUNO Awards for Video of the year and Billboard Music Awards as Top Rock Album in the year 2013.
