About Major Lazer

Major Lazer: Music Project To Love. DJ Diplo and Switch were the members of this band. Before, different productions of Major Lazer include Skerrit Bwoy. Sadly, Skerrit Bwoy decided to leave the project in order to pursue religion. After they have collaborated with M.I.A, the duo began to work together. They released their first album entitled “Guns Don't Kill People.. Lazer Do”/ Launch date was on June 16, 2009 under the Downtown Records. Various musicians like MapeiMr. Vegas, Prince Zimboo, TOKLeftside, Amanda Banks and many others have lent their vocals for the said album. The single in this album entitled “Hold The Line” got nominated in the MTV Award for Breakthrough Video. With the success of their first album, Major Lazer was able to perform live shows and gigs in popular festivals and big places. They were seen in the Falls Music & Arts Festival, Coachella Music Festival, Pitchfork Music Festival, and Sasquatch Music Festival and many more.

In 2010, the group released their EP with the title of “Lazers Never Die” which features three new songs as well as some remixes from various music artists like Thom Yorke. At the same year, Switched contributed in the production of Beyonce's hit song “Run the World (Girls). Which features great sample of “Pon de Floor”.

In 2012, the duo collaborated with Snoop Dogg in order to create some tracks which will be featured in his new reggae album. However, the project did not push through. Major Lazer left the production because of some creative differences that the artists have. Diplo left Major Lazer too and was replaced by Walshy Fire and DJ Jillionaire. In the same year, Major Lazer announced the release of their album “Free the Universe”.

In their sixth studio album named “Push and Shove”, Major Lazer worked alongside No Doubt. The band also went on their fall concert tour in 2012.

In 2013, the music project signed with indie record labels called Secretly Canadian. At the same time, they also announced the release for their latest album entitled “Free the Universe”.
