About Lil' Wayne

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, more popularly known as Lil Wayne, was born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At age 12, he started liking hip hop songs.

He started out as a member of Hot Boys, who he launched 3 albums with. After they have all decided to go on separate ways, he struggled a bit in finding success as a solo artist.

He founded his own recording company called Young Money Entertainment that released 10 solo albums. This has proved that Wayne has a good knowledge about the business and is able to lead young artist to the top charts. This just proved that he really has a good eye for talent and has spotted diamonds in the dark with his discoveries. Among his greatest gems include Nicki Minaj and Drake.

Wayne’s unique approach to singing talent made him even more successful. He chooses artists based on their abilities and uniqueness and not according to what others would think.

But given that kind of talent, along with handwork, he later on had a handful of solo albums. One of the highlights of his career was when he released Tha Carter II in 2005. He then started to prove why he is labeled as one of the best in his generations by backing up that achievement with an amazing creative hot streak. He produced several mix tapes and did guesting over in the succeeding years. At the end of 2008, Tha Carter III was released and sold over a million copies within just a week.

In that same year, he was arrested due to drugs and weapon charges. But he surpassed all controversies. Not so long after that incident, he released “Lollipop”, which features Static Major and reached the top chart in June.

Subsequent albums include “Got Money”, “A Milli” were all big hits. He also had an opportunity to work with Jay-Z, who eventually anointed him as the next king of rap.

Lil Wayne was among the most awarded artists of his time. He won eight 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards that includes MVP, 4 Grammy's, and Rap Album of the Year.

Success continues to rise and so are the controversies. Another album called Rebirth was released in 2010, just before he was scheduled to go to prison for a year-long sentence because of illegal gun possession.
