Who is Kanye?
Kanye Omari West was born on the 8th of June, 1997. He is a songwriter, rapper producer, film director, entrepreneur and fashion designer. He has been known for working with other artists like Jay – Z, Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Janet Jackson. He was raised in a middle class home in Chicago and has been rapping his heart out since the 3rd grade. He attended art school for a semester then dropped out in order to pursue his passion for music.
Rise to Fame
Kanye got his ticket to fame when he was producing artists for Roc-A-Fella Records and became famous for revitalizing rapper Jay –Z’s musical career, specifically his contributions on the album the Blueprint, which was considered one of the greatest Hip Hop albums ever produced. He served as an in house producer for Roc-A-Fella and continued to make hit singles for Ludacris, Alicia Keys and Janet Jackson.
In 2004, Kanye released his first album entitled The College Dropout under Roc-A-Fella which went to number 2 in the Billboard 200 with his single Through the Wire grabbing 15th place on Billboard Hot 100 for 5 consecutive weeks. His second single Slow Jam featuring Twista and Jamie Foxx made an even bigger hit and made a the first 3 man single hit. His hit Jesus Walks presented a new type of musical approach by pertaining to recent issues such as racism and terrorism. It reached top 20 in the charts even though it showed a Christian approach to music.
In 2005, Kanye released the album Late Registration and collaborated with Jon Brion. Even though Brion had no hip hop background they found out that they could be productive and sold 2.3 million albums. He later followed it with the album Heartbreak and Yeezus that created a very big impact in the musical industry. Kanye is also successful in the field of entrepreneurship and has multiple businesses.
