James Christopher Gaffigan, better known as Jim Gaffigan, is an outstanding stand up comedian, producer of his own shows, writer and actor. He was born on July, 7 1966. Now lives in New York with his spouse and their five children who are the core of his creative work: his humor mostly touches up on parenthood, family life and just observations on the outside world. Other topics are people’s laziness and love for food – he has even written a book devoted to Americans’ eating habits. Gaffigan has also starred in numerous films, series, shows, live broadcasts and other media events.
Coming from a conservative family, Jim Gaffigan had no connections in the artistic community and no links to other comedians. According to him, his uncle was the first family member to go to college after the 150 years of their family’s presence in the USA. And of course, it was expected from the young generation to continue this path. So when Gaffigan announced that he wants to join the actors’ society he did not get much support from the relatives.
Nevertheless, after graduating in 1988 with a degree (more to please the family) Jim Gaffigan came to live in New York to start work in advertisement. At the same time, he was taking acting lessons and practicing his stand up in minor local clubs. The beginning of his career was the first Jim Gaffigan stand up in 1991 when he was 25. From that time on, his success started to wind up: he was noticed by David Letterman whom he cites as one of his inspirers. Letterman was highly impressed and inspired Gaffigan to start his own short series – Welcome to New York came on the screens in 2000. In 2010, Jim Gaffigan and his wife Jeannie started a new sitcom depicting their own life simply named The Jim Gaffigan Show about a married couple and their five children sharing a two-bedroom flat in New York. This Jim Gaffigan show turned ou to be a real success but after two seasons, the couple decided to stop the production.
Jim Gaffigan events are known to be suitable for any audience and he himself – to be ‘the king of clean’ using kind humor, avoiding peevishness and profanity. After the Welcome to New York show Gaffigan decided to step away from cursing and profanity and being nasty. Now he appears to be more family-friendly, speaks about laziness, American food, parenthood. Two of his books are also devoted to that subjects: Dad is Fat (2013) and Food: A Love Story (2014). The soft humor allowed him to be the only invited performer at the catholic Festival of Families in 2015 which was attended by the Pope Francis himself and seen by over 1 million attendees.
Apart from beingcomedian, Gaffigan has also done multiple voiceovers and taken part in sitcoms, series and shows. He has participated in more than 200 commercials and also That ’70s show in 1998, Sex and the City in 1998, Law and order in 1990, Ed in 2000 and many others.Jim Gaffigan tour 2017
