Is a British multi talented singer-songwritter, rapper, beatboxer and record producer, Jay Sean’s real name is Kamaljit Singh Jhooti. Jay Sean was born on March 26, 1981 in Harlesden, Brent, in London, UK.He was first known as a member of the Rishi Rich project under the single “Dance with You” that reached No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 2003. A lucrative deal followed when he signed a £1m deal with Virgin Records, under their label Relentless Records.
In 2004, his debut album, “Me Against Myself” was released that received critical praised and acclaimed. The album achieved modest success in the UK, sold million copies in Asia and remains his most successful album to date.
In 2006, he left Virgin Records and founded his own independent label, Jayded Records. After nearly four years of absence, he returned in 2008 with chart topping “Ride It”. Another chart topper followed, the hit “Maybe” and then “Tonight”. They were included in his second album, “My Own Way” that was a big success in UK chart.
At the end of 2008, Jay signed to Cash Money Records and in 2009, his American debut single “Down” topped the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first solo artist of South Asian origin and first UK urban act to top the Hot 100. The same year also marked as one of the hottest selling single worldwide.
Another hit single, “Do you Remember” followed and became also a chart topper.
In 2009, at the UK Asian Music Awards, Jay won the “Best Male”, “Best Urban Act”; and “Best Album” for his second album My Own Way. The album entitled “All or Nothing” was released but was anemic on the US and UK charts. It was successful in Japan, reaching number 11 on the Oricron Album Chart. On September, 2011, Jay released a mixtaped entitled “The Mistress” and in 2012, a Japan exclusive album titled “Hit the Lights” was released. The song reached #85 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #13 and certified gold in Australia.
Jay is known as a multi awarded artist and a global super star. With popular performance and collaboration ranging from Justine Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale, Usher, Rihanna, Jay-Z and Beyoncѐ among others. Jay is also known for his various charity works and an active campaign artist for PETA.
