About Ingrid Michaelson

Born in 1979, Ingrid Michaelson is a pop-folk singer from Staten Island, New York. Her beautiful voice and exception musical skills propelled her into stardom in the late 2000-2009 decade. Michaelson’s sound is similar to Sara Bareilles, Allie Moss, Erin McCarley, and Katie Herzig.

Raised in an artistic family, Michaelson began exploring her talents at a young age. She started playing piano at age 4, while attending the Third Street Music School. As she grew older, she spent her adolescence taking special training and furthering her talents. Michaelson directed plays, wrote music, and became a notable talent in the New York area.

In 2006, she released her second unsolicited album, Girls and Boys. The record was the follow-up to her first self-recorded project. Using the internet, she placed her music on Myspace and other outlets to spread her work. A representative from ABC noticed the up-and-coming star and introduced her to major players in the music industry. Later, she signed with Original Signal Recordings, which aloud her more freedoms than other label offers. Afterwards, Michaelson re-released Girls and Boys under her new representation and began touring. The record reached the mid-60s on Billboard Charts and garnered much critical acclaim.

In 2008, Michaelson returned to the studio and released her third album, Be OK. The record received mixed reviews, yet, continued her strong following. The next year she dropped her fourth album, Everybody. The album did better than the last reaching No. 18 on Billboard Charts. Michaelson followed the release by going on a world tour. During this time, she recorded a live performance at Sidney, Australia. In 2010, the singer dropped her single, Parachute. It received modest reviews and never made it on an album or EP.

In 2012, she finalized and released her fifth album, Human Again. The record became her biggest success, reaching No. 5 on Billboard Charts. She followed by headlining her own sold out tour. Michaelson continued this trend until returning to the studio to work on her sixth record. In February 2014, the first single “Girls Chase Boys” dropped from the latest album, Lights Out. The record is now available for purchase on ITunes. Michaelson is currently on tour making notable stops in Berlin, Germany and London, UK.
