About Hurts

Hurts is an English synthpop, new wave, soft rock duo that was formed on 2009 in Manchester, England. The members are Theo Hutchcraft (singer) born on August 30, 1986 and Adam Anderson (Synthesizer) born on May 14, 1984. Their team work was started in the club somewhere in Manchester which they shared their interest while they are drunk. They shared thoughts about music and later on decided to form a band. They begin in their first performance in The Music Box where they got discovered by High Voltage Sound label.

They introduced their first single called “After Midnight”/ “Dollhouse” in the month of November. Later on, they signed a contract with Label Fandango and released “Money”/ “Magazine” that was nominated with Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize. They transfer to London with the help of the two producers Biff Stannard and Richard but after few months they return to Manchester. In the year 2009, they came up with a music video of the single “Wonderful Life” in which they collaborated with a female dancer and they upload it in YouTube on April 21, 2009. The video received positive feedback and got to Top 200 Most Watched Videos that got 21 million.

Hurts got the attention of Sony, RCA Records and Major Label Records and soon after they signed a contract with them. The duo came to a decision that they will not perform unless they had sufficient songs to show to their fans. On the other hand while they working on their song, the prominent The Guardian recognized them and called them as “Band of the Day” on 27th of July 2009 which they were invited to record a song in Maida Vale Studios in London. In 2010, they released their first debut album entitled “Happiness” on August 27 by RCA Records and produced by Joseph Cross, The Nexus, Jonas Quant and the duo itself. They collaborated with the Australian artist Kylie Minogue in some of their songs. It peaked at number 2 in Germany as well as Australia while in the top 10 on Denmark, Sweden, Ireland and Finland. It was sold for 169, 710 copies in the UK while 2 million all over the world.

The 2nd album was called “Exile” that was launched on March 8, 2013 through Major Label. It comprises of 12 songs which they worked with Dan Grech- Marguerat. It sold for about 12, 124 copies on its first week and ranked at number nine in UK Albums Chart. They also held performances all over the world including the NME Radar Tour, Happiness Tour, Exile Tour and Art on Ice Tour in the year 2014. They had 200 concerts in front of 500, 000 and over 46 countries.
