Is a multi-lingual Trinidadian-German-American singer, Haddaway‘s real name is Nestor Alexander Haddaway. Haddaway was born on January 09, 1965 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He moved to Washington DC at the age of nine. Haddaway finished a degreein political science and history from the George Washington University in Washington DC. He is popularly known for his highly successful 1993 hit, “What is Love”. Haddaway is also considered as one of the faces of Euro-pop. His musical influence is from Louis Armstrong, who is responsible for his trumpet playing skill. He is also fluent in English, Dutch, German and French.

In 1992, Haddaway started his sterling career when he signed with the German label Coconut Records. The released of his first single “What is Love” quickly gathers momentum in Europe, peaked at #2 in Germany and in the UK. It also topped in the USA and just about everywhere else.

The follow up single “Life”reached #2 in Germany and also a chart topper in the UK and the US. By 1994, worldwide sales had reached 1.5 million copies.

The singles “I Miss You” and “Rock My Heart” soon followed and became a smash hit in Europe and reached a platinum status with hundreds of thousands of shipments.

In 1995 his second album was released entitled The Drive that includes the chart topping hits “Fly Away”, “Catch a Fire” and “Lover Be Thy Name”. “What is Love” rush to popularity on Saturday Night Live and the film A Night at the Roxbury.

Like any other hit makers, Haddaway faced downturn trend and cannot match the earlier hits he had achieved in his career. After years of success, Haddaway struggled to repeat the peak success of his early hits.

In 2004, Haddaway appeared on television in Germany.

In 2005, Haddaway appeared on the UK show, Hit Me Baby One More Time. And afterward appeared on the US Version.

His next album Pop Splitshit a modest success in Germany, however ‘What is Love” was featured in a 2008 Pepsi commercial for Diet Pepsi Max.

In 2012, Haddaway released the single “Up and Up” which became a chart topper dance hit in the USA.
