Goo Goo Dolls is an example of the most fantastic band stories of the century. They have proved that common artistic effort, hard work and stamina can undoubtedly bring a band on top of fame and keep it there for long. Constant concentration on songwriting and perfect presentation have resulted in utmost professionalism; this also created an impulse strong enough to help the band enter the new millennium as a famous rock group.
This American «mainstream» band was formed in 1985 in Buffalo where they were first playing in local clubs. That time, the group consisted of Johny Rzeznik, Robby Takac and George Tutuska. The amazing success came due to following the same musical style during all the time. The debut album came out in 1987, and its name was Goo Goo Dolls.
Then in 1988, the next release followed – Jed – noted by critics and given good reviews. Some time later, the popularity of the band grew, which attracted the attention of major record labels. The next release was made with the bigger label. After it was released, the group was touring without a break for two years in the US earning the fame of a stage band.
The next CD was well-made, but it did not make as many sellings as it was expected. Nevertheless, the musicians didn’t give up and went on working hard on their new songs. In 1995, the new disc saw light. By that time, George Tutuska has already left the group substituted by Mike Malinin. Starting from that time, the Goo Goo Dolls hav created a number of soundtracks for popular Hollywood movies.
After that, the band made a three year pause, when lots of their fans started to doubt that they would be able to repeat the success again. But in 1998, their singles topped the charts again also winning awards. 1998 was a year of great success, but after that, they needed four years to come out with a new studio work. The album showed a slightly different sound and change in mood.
In 1998, they released their Dizzy Up the Girl, followed by an extended play a year later. The EP is now supported by the US tour. The album contained a number of hit singles and soon became multiplatinum and followed by almost a non-stop world tour that brought ultimate success in Europe, Asia and Australia. Regular Goo Goo Dolls concerts were filled with energy and gathered up to 20000 people making the band one of the top American groups.
