Godsmack, an American heavy metal/Alternative metal band, was formed in Massachusetts in 1995. The band has got four members, Tony Rombola (guitarist), Sully Erna (songwriter and vocalist), Robbie Merrill (bassist) and Shannon Larkin (drummer). Up to now, the band has six studio albums and a number of DVDs and live album. Godsmack came with a self-sponsored album and released it in 1996, hoping that the album could market the band well. Godsmack had to invest $2500 for the album recording and publishing. Newbury Comics, a store helped them by selling their disc to local people. Soon after the release of their self-titled album, they got a knock from a radio station for a song called "Keep Away". And the band started performing at different places on different occasions with pure motivation to create alternative metal music. In "Keep Away" was getting super hit and they could sell so many copies from Newbury Comics. Their album became the second top selling album sold from that chain store.
Joe Darco left the band and Tommy Stewart joined Godsmack. The band popularity and music quality soon allowed them to be a part of ‘The Voodoo Tour’.
In 2000, the band got their second album “Awake”. The title track of the album rocked the radio stations at that time. They also included an instrumental tract in the album “"Vampires" which got Grammy nomination. In 2002 the band was asked for a movie (The Scorpion King) soundtrack. So this was an honor and great achievement for the band. In 2003, the band had their third album “Faceless”. Soon this album became number in the hit chart in America. Godsmack released an acoustic EP around in 2004.
The band has been continuing its performances and live concerts in many parts of the world. The powerful vocal of Sully Erna is well appreciated by a number of fans today. The way of singing of Sully Erna has been considered as "the snarl of James Hetfield". The stage performance of the band has always been considered great and blood thrilling.
