About Garbage

Garbage, an alternative rock band, was founded in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band lineup includes vocalist and guitarist Shirley Manson, guitarist and keyboardist Steve Marker, drummer Butch Vig and bassist Duke Erikson. Vig began his musical learning with piano and then drums. He was interested to build up a career in music and left higher academic degrees. He joined a band known as "Spooner" as a drummer. He found Erikson in the band. Marker used to live in New York but moved to Wisconsin for his college. With the passage of time, Marker became fan of this band. Vig left Spooner. Spooner soon became Firetown and Vig again joined the band.

Firetown was unable to see any success and broke in the 80s. Vig was getting popular and his involvement with studio was strong at that time. Vig and Markar started playing together and talked to Erikson to be with them. Afterwards, Garbage was formed in 1993. After continuous jamming, they found Shirley Manson who was well known for Angelfish on MTV. Manson had a good musical knowledge as she learned keyboard playing and was able to sing very well. In 1994 and early 1995, Garbage released its debut album. The album received support from MTV and radio channels. And the album began to chimp up as a top album of 1995. The band got gold and platinum statuses within a short time.

Their second album was recorded in 1997. Four years later, Garbage released a very sophisticated album entitled “Beautiful Garbage”. One of the singles, "Androgyny", from the album became super hit. The band saw its popularity at its peak. Manson was also a very popular figure who also could release a solo album. Garbage could release its latest album in 2012 entitled “Not Your Kind of People “. The band achieved so many prestigious awards which include “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group”, “Best International Band”, “Best World Stage Performance”, “Best Song”, Best Rock Album and “Album of The Year”, “Best new artist” and other awards. Their performance has always been so vibrant and well crowded.
