About Fatboy Slim

Norman Cook, who is more popularly known as Fatboy Slim in the music industry, was among the very first to introduce big beat. He ranks next to the Chemical Brothers when it comes to breaking this type of music in America.

Fatboy Slim is into different kinds of music that includes rock, house, and funk to make electronic music very much appropriate for dancing. This sudden change of focus caused several techno purists to contempt him, but he was still lucky to be granted major successes at home and in USA.

Cook, who debuted in Quentin, started his acts as a DJ in 1985. He had his name changed to Normal and joined the band Housemartins. He replaced their original bassist, Ted Key. The band was known for being socially conscious. They always present a no frills aura and scathes sarcasm. The albums they launched in 1986 and 1987 were all successful in reaching the top charts. Among their popular hits include “Happy Hour” and “Caravan of Love”.

Right after the band has parted ways in 1988, two of their members formed Beautiful South while Cook returned to dance music with Beats International that ranked first in UK with its hit song entitled, “Dub Be Good to Me”.

Fatboy Slim recorded several other monikers like Freakpower, Pizzaman, and Mighty Dub Katz, which all became popular in UK. Soon after, he did the Fatboy Slim project. He also conquered America with his single “Going Out of My Head” in 1996.

But the highlight of his career was actually his album entitled “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby” in 1998 that made him into a sensational singing star worldwide. The songs in this album, specifically “Praise You” have remained on top of the charts for over 20 weeks.

Cook tried new genres like R&B and has collaborated with several other talented singers. He was also triumphant on this genre. He even won six MTV video awards in year 2001.

In 2004, he launched Pallookaville and 2 years after, he released a best-of. It was in 2008 when he announced his desire to have a new moniker with which to release his new album that is mostly done and features songs with Iggy Pop.

This very talented young man will continue to make good music that is for sure. More albums, concerts, and awards are coming his way and that’s what we all have to follow.
