About Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Created in 2007, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros is a hippie folk-rock band from Los Angeles, California. Their sound resembles the psychedelic tunes that consumed the dissented youth of the 1960s. A mixture of modern folk and classic rock, the group found a unique captivating sound that fixated audiences of all ages. Since their hit single “Home” released, countless videos have been posted of people covering the popular song. Associated acts include Ima Robot, Sugarcult, and Fool’s Gold. Edward Sharp is fronted by Alex Ebert and supported by countless other musicians that stay on rotation.

After recovering from addiction, Ebert met singer Jade Castrinos and the pair began writing music. The group began to add members until they totaled 12. Afterwards, they headed out on a self-promoted tour, making stops in Marfa, Texas and many others. In 2009, they hit the studio to record their first record. Later that year, the album dropped to a huge success. Their hit single “Home” became an international favorite. One of the biggest poles in the world ranked the album number 15 in 2009. The song also appeared on a NFL preview commercial.

After touring with Old Crow Medicine Show and other hit acts, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros released their follow up album, Here. The record did not see as much commercial success; yet it continued their cult following. In 2013, their third self-titled record hit the shelves and equaled the previous one in popularity. During this time they continued to tour, stopping in Austin, Texas and other notable music cities. While on tour, director Emmett Malloy filmed the large ensemble and won a Grammy for his efforts. The film depicted the joys of music through the eyes of American folk tunes.

Since, the band continues to tour and interact with fans. On July 28, 2014, the group posted a memorial for a fan from Bentonville, Arkansas. The man was a dedicated Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros enthusiast and past away from cancer. Two days later, the band took the stage on David Letterman to perform their latest single. They are currently on a tour spanning the US.
