About Dead by April

Created in 2007, Dead by April is a melodic new-metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Their sound resembles Nine Inch NailsEvanescence, and Ramstein. Associated acts include Deathdestruction, The Unguided, and Nightrage. The group began with original members Pontus Hjelm and Jimmie Strimell. During the formative years, the group underwent lineup changes. It currently consists of Hjelm, Chris Anderson, Zandro Santiago, Marcus Wesslen, and Marcus Rosell.

Dead by April spent their first three years playing the local Gothenburg area and releasing little music. The few songs they released leaked to music sharing websites gaining the band a grassroots following. In 2009, they dropped their debut self-titled album. The record gained modest success and mixed reviews. It gained a large following in the gothic and glam communities. They followed by touring in support of their new record. One year later, the band headlined the Norwegian Music Festival, followed by the temporary departure of Hjelm.

Dead by April spent the rest of the year touring and releasing the single “Within My Heart.” After undergoing member changes, the band assembled some previous works and released, Stronger, on January 2011. The music gained mixed review in the metal circles. It featured a mixture of hardcore and mainstream pop. The record contained unreleased tracks along with re-mastered songs. In the spring, the band announced they were in the studio working on a new album and they received a slot at the popular, Sonisphere Festival. At the end of the 2011 year, the group released their next album, Incomparable. The record did well in Sweden becoming the second best seller of the year.

In 2012, the band toured and continued to perform throughout Europe. The next year they announced they had a new album in the works and released their EP, As a Butterfly. The song featured melodic electronics with heavy guitar and screaming. During this time original member Strimell left the band, due to individual problems. The album delayed releasing and finally dropped in 2014. Dead by April changed drummers then toured in support of their album. They are currently touring making notable stops in Krasnodar arena, Black Sea, Veselovka.
