Daughter is an indie folk, alternative rock band formed on 2010 in London, UK. It comprises with Elena Tontra (Lead vocalist, guitarist, and bass guitarist), Igor Haefeli (Guitarist) and Remi Aguilella (drummer, percussionist). They signed a recording contract in 2012 with 4AD; a reputable label that released plenty of albums by different artists. They released their first EP called “Demos EP” in the year 2010 followed by “His Young Heart” that released on June 6, 2011 by Glassnote Records. It was in Vinyl format which old family picture of Elena was the cover. It consists of 4 songs composed and written by Elena including “Landfill” and “The Woods”.
In October 2, 2011 they launched a self released “The Wild Youth EP” produced by Ian Grimble. It includes “Home”, “Medicine”, “Youth” and “Love” in which they collaborated with Matt Brown, and Adam Nunn. The single “Medicine” was featured in the dance show “So You Think You Can Dance” in the year 2013. After they signed in 4AD, they released their first debut album which called “If You Leave” on 18th of March 2013 produced by Igor together with Rodaidh McDonald. It comprises the new version of the song “Youth” which they released 2 years later. The album peaked at number 4 in UK indie chart, number 16 in Top 100, number 16 in UK Albums chart and number 97 in Billboard 200. In the good run, the album was portrayed as “Instantly enchanting of design” as well as “More engaging than many a peer’s offering”.
The band was reviewed by the prestigious The Guardian who believes in their talents and their song. Aside from that, they won Independent Album of the year by AIM Independent Music Awards 2013 on London and they performed in St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, North American and live in Portmeirion. In the year 2014, they came up with single “Smother” that was introduced on March 1 through Glassnote Entertainment that was included in BBC Radio 1 lists along side with 6Music that had been recognized as Single of the Week by Huw Stephens. In addition, they released their “4AD Session” that comprises 5 powerful songs in which they collaborated with Joe Duddell as arranger and conductor, Leon Henry, Sal Pittman, Joel Rainsley, Warren Foster, Tom Wood, Matt Brown and Gordon Allison.
