About Bullet for My Valentine

Bullet for My Valentine are a heavy metal band that originated from Wales, United Kingdom that was formed in 1998. The band is currently composed of Matthew Tuck in lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jason James in bass guitar and back-up vocals, Padge Paget in lead guitar and back-up vocals, and Moose Thomas in drums.

Originally, the band is called Jeff Killed John composed by musicians Padge Paget, Matthew Tuck, Moose Thomas and Nick Crandle. They formed the band while they were studying at Bridgend College for Music. They make cover songs of Nirvana and Metallica.

A year later, 1999, the group released their debut EP album entitled “Better Off Alone.” Then, three years after, 2002, the group released a two-track EP entitled “You/Play with Me.” The band Jeff Killed John pursue a nu metal trend with their music. They were influenced by the band Korn and Limp Bizkit. Then they released “Eye Spy”, another two-track EP. “Don’t Walk Away” was their second EP album released in 2003. They used this album to distribute in different recording companies, local and international. Due to their chosen genre, the album did not become successful. Due to their struggles, the bassist Nick Crandle left the band and Jason James replaced him.

After replacing Crandle, the band decided to change the name of the group to Bullet for My valentine. They also changed their approach in music now focusing on producing heavy metal songs. They released their last self titled EP album with five songs. Then the album became very popular and successful showing their potential and making them sign a contract with record labels.

The first recording company that offered them a deal was Roadrunner Records, but the band rejected the offer. The band was interested signing with Sony BMG that offered a five-album deal and with Visible Noise, U.K.’s licensing deal.

In November 2004 with their recording company, they released another self-titled EP album making it their first official album. Then in August 2005, they released “Hand of Blood.”

In October 2005, Bullet for My Valentine released “The Poison”, their debut album. It reached the 128th spot in Billboard 200. The band scheduled concerts all over the world to promote their album. They even got the chance to open concerts for Guns ‘N Roses and Metallica in 2006.

The band received awards from Welsh Music Award, Metal Hammer Golden God Award and Kerrang! Awards.

In January 2009, their album “The Poison” sold five hundred thousand copies in US.
