About Brainstorm

Brainstorm is an American funk and R&B band that was formed on 1970 in Detroit, Michigan. The members are Belita Woods (vocalist), Chuck Overton (band leader, saxophonist), Lamont Johnson (bassist, vocal),Renell Gonsalves (drummer), Treaty Womack (vocal, percussion, flute), Boss Ross/ Professor RJ Ross (keyboard), Gerald Jerry Kent (guitar) Jeryl Bright (trombone), Larry Sims (Trumpet) and other irregular members including Jerom & Jimmy (Bass and Guitar) and Regina Carter (violin).

Their debut album was called “Stormin” that was released on 1977 through Tabu Records and produced by Jerry Peters. It comprises of 9 tracks including “Lovin’ Is Really My Game” plus “Waiting for someone” and “We Know A Place” that was ranked at number 31 Billboard Top Soul Albums and number 145 in Billboard Pop Albums. One year later, they came up with their 2nd album called “Journey To the Light” in which they collaborated with Deon Estus, Henry Cosby, Sylvia Moy and specially Stevie Wonder for the song “Every Time I See You, I Go Wild” along with the released it was that placed at number 53 in Billboard Top Soul Albums.

In the year 1979, they introduced their 3rd album called “Funky Entertainment” containing the songs Popcorn, Don’t Let Me Catch You with Your Groove Down, as well as You Put Charge in My Life. They also produced singles including Wake Up and Be Somebody, Hot for you, We’re On Our Way Home and a lot more. During the time that the band is making name in industry, they got the 1978 Billboard Magazine Light Radio/Heavy Disco Record of the year in which this is the fruit of their hardworking and aside from that their single “Lovin’ Is Really My Game” was featured in almost 54 film in which Mike Myers had one of the major role.

After those albums, the band got separated in the year 1980 and the other members had collaborated with different artists and production in which they performed in many places. Even though the band torn apart the members are still get connected all though they did not reunited as a band but one thing for sure, they will get reunited as group of friends. The band leaved a song legacy on the decades even their performances that put marked to their fans that they will cherished it forever.
