Is an American hip hop group, its beginning date back in 1988 when William Adams known AKA will.i.am and Allan Pineda; stage name apl.de.ap met in Los Angeles. The two signed a contract deal under “Ruthless Records”; this is because of the nephew of Eazy-E’s manager Jerry Heller. The first name of the group was “Atban Klann” or A Tribe Beyond A Nation. The group was formed by will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Mookie Mook , DJ Motiv8 and Dante Santiago. Their supposed debut album “Grass Roots” was not released because Eazy-E died the founder of the Ruthless Records.
In 1995, after the death of Eazy-E they changed their group name and became the Black Eyed Pods, and not too long after they changed it again to what is now known The Black Eyed Peas. Reformation took place and Dante Santiago was removed and replaced by Jaime Gomez or also known by his stage name “Taboo”. The three, Adams, Pineda, and Gomez became the only members of the group after some changes were made. Their debut album was Behind The Front (1998) followed by Bridging The Gap (2000).
The following years became the turning point of their success when their album Elephunk was introduced in 2003, singer Stacy Ann Ferguson or known as Fergie by her stage name was featured in the song. Before Ferguson, Nicole Scherzinger was approached to be part of the band but Scherzinger that time was still member of the Eden’s Crush band and still under a contract. Fergie then signed a contract to join the group in 2002. They introduced a more polished songs fit to massive audiences, they were even called the “United Colors of Benetton”.
From the album Elephunk, the song “Where Is The Love” came and become the first hit of the group. Topping the charts at No.8 in the U.S. and including the United Kingdom where it topped at No.1 for seven weeks, their song became the biggest-selling single in 2003. After the release of Elephunk, the group had an estimated sale of 76 million records making them the world’s best-selling group of all time.
They were awarded Decade-End Chart Artist by Billboard which placed them in number 12 spot. They also won three nominations and awards at the 52nd Grammy Awards conducted in 2010, making the popularity of the group unstoppable.
Some of their popular hits were, Where is the Love (2003), My Humps (2005), and BoomBoomPow (2009). The group is already planning to record their next album.
