About Bassnectar

A popular American DJ and record producer Bassnectar’s real name is Lorin Ashton. Based in Sta. Cruz, California, Bassnectar is born in the year 1997 and grew up in San Francisco, California. He is widely known for jaw dropping performances, radiance shows, community commitment and active supporter of nonprofit organizations.

Influence

Bassnectar’s forte is heavy metal and rock. His musical artistry and originality is heavily influenced by heavy metal and rock bands that include Metallica, Magadeth and Nirvana. The heavy metal and rock influences are clearly incorporated in tracks such as “Pennywise Tribute”, “Seek and Destroy” (Bassnectar Remix) and “Boomerang”.

Albums

In 2001, Bassnectar debut album, “Freakbeat for the Beatfreaks” was released under his own label Amorphus Music. Following his debut album, in 2002 he released his second album entitled “Beatfreak Bohemia”, in 2003 was followed by “Motions Mutations” and “Diverse Systems of Throb” in 2004.

In 2005, his “Mesmerizing the Ultra” album was available thru the “Organic Music Label” containing two disks with disk B with the same tracks, in the order from the previous album, “Diverse Systems of Throb”.

2007 saw the release of “Underground Communication” under “Om Records” and was “his first” for the record company. In 2009, another album was release called “Cozza Frenzy”

After two years, in 2011Bassnectar, once again through his Amorphus Music Label released “Divergent Spectrum”. The said album is a brainstorm with huge number of artists across all waves of music.

Advocates and Causes

Bassnectar is one of the strong frontliners for causes such as freedom of the press, expression and information and is a supporter of the non-government organization Conscious Alliance.Some of his known tracks voiced “socio-political nature” including from Martin Luther King, Jr., Noam Chomsky, Mumia abu-Jamal, Michael Rupert, and Fred Hampton. Bassnectar has shown a strong support for charities when he offered $1 for every receipt sold on his charity tour via the “Dollar PerBasshead” campaign. The receipt ticket gathers $250,000 disbursed across three charities which include “Alternet”, “Free Press Organization”, and non-profit “Reach Out” which were chosen by fans. His generosity continued in year 2012 to 2013 where fans are given the power to choose for the distribution of $100,000 per year for different charitable organizations.
