The well-known American boy band “Backstreet Boys” was formed in year 1993 and originated in Orlando, Florida. The group is composed of five heartthrobs namely Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson.
The formation of the group started from cousins Kevin and Brian. Both cousins were part of the local church choir in Lexington, Kentucky. Meanwhile, Howie and AJ were originally from Orlando, Florida. Howie and AJ later met Nick during one of the auditions that they were interested in. The three aspiring artist then figured out that they can harmonize and then they agreed to form a trio. Kevin moved to Orlando and had a job at Walt Disney World by day and pursued music by night. In the long run, he met the trio and he later joined the group.
In 1992, in Orlando Sentinel, there is an ad by Lou Pearlman. Pearlman is looking for people to form a vocal group. It was AJ who first audition and was accepted to be the first member of the group. In 1993, Pearlman decided to have an open casting call with hundreds of young artists wanting a position for the upcoming group. In due course, Howie, Nick and Kevin passed the expectation of Pearlman and then they were accepted to be part of the group. Few months later, Brian was invited by his cousin, Kevin, to join the group. Brian moved to Orlando right away and grabs the opportunity. The group was formally formed on the 20th day of April 1993. The name “Backstreet Boys” was inspired by the Orlando’s Backstreet Market, it was an outdoor market and a teen hangout. Pearlman decided to use that name for his newly formed group.
A month later of the formation of the group, Backstreet Boys had their debut appearance at Sea World Orlando. After that, they kept on performing in different venues from malls to a high-profile gala. They also scheduled tours in different schools all over US.
Their very first single “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” was recorded in Sweden and was aired in radio stations in 1995. They were widely celebrated in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Netherlands, gaining the countries’ top 5 singles. Unfortunately, they only gained the 69th spot in US. Because of their massive success in Europe, they scheduled a summer tour there. Their self-titled debut album was done recording and released in 1996 all over the European countries. Later that year, the album was released in Canada. Their hit single “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” sold over 250,000 copies in Germany alone. Then their album sold over 500,000 copies again in Germany. Due to their success, they expand their market by touring all over Asia and Canada.
