About Awolnation

AWOLNATION, an American rock band, was formed in 2009 and started their career in Los Angeles, California. Aaron Bruno, former member of bands including Home Town Hero, was the mind behind the band and coined the name AWOLNATION from the military term “Absent without Official Leave”. Asked about the reason behind the name, he said that he is more comfortable leaving without saying goodbye.

Creation of a Nation

AWOLNATION began when Bruno signed with Red Bull Records in 2009. He started to write and arrange his own songs and soon he created the band and started recording their album.
In March 2011, the band first released its debut album Megalithic Symphony online and after a few days, the actual CD copies was made available in the market. The album contained 14 original tracks including “Not Your Fault”, “Kill Your Heroes” and “Burn it Down”.

Sail and the Band’s Success

Among the singles released by the band, it was the song “Sail” that became a big hit. “Sail” reached the tenth spot in the U.S. Billboard Rock Songs and was played in several television shows including The Good Wife and House. It was also featured in commercial ads for Nokia and Under Armour. The song also ranked at number 17 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and in the UK Singles Chart, number 27 in the ARIA Charts and number 33 in the New Zealand Music Chart.

Among the band’s other singles that received appreciation from the listeners include “Burn it Down” included in an episode of the television show Sons of Anarchy, “Guilthy Filthy Soul” featured in the hit American series The Vampire Diaries, and “All I Need” played in the first season of the TV series Common Law.

The band’s song “Some Kind of Joke” was part of the soundtrack for the action movie Iron Man 3 released in 2013. A deluxe form of Megalithic Symphony was also released by the band which includes “Some Kind of Joke”, “Thiskidsnotalright” and “Soulwars”.

Despite the early career of the band, AWOLNATION has performed in several live shows and concert tours across the world. For one, the band has completed its tour dates in Canada extending from September 23 to October 6, 2011. The band has also performed across U.S. in 2012 including concerts in Philadelphia, Denver and Portland. In May 2014, the band completed its tour dates in UK including shows in BristolManchester and London.
