About Atreyu

Atreyu is a band for all kinds of metal-- post-hardcore, metalcore and alternative metal. This band started in 1998 and is still continuously making their name in the music industry.

Who Is In The Band?

Atreyu came from Orange County in California. The band members are as follows: Alex Varkatzas as the lyricist or vocalist, Traviz Miguel and Jan Jacob in the guitars, Mark McKnight in the bass and Brandon Saller as the vocalist and drummer. The band's original name was Retribution. However, they soon discovered that another band in Hermet California was using it too so they changed it to 'Atreyu'. Their band is named after a certain character in the fantasy book-turned-movie “The Never-ending Story”.

The Journey To Music Kingdom

The band signed up with the music company, Victory records, in 2001. Come 2002, they finally released their first album entitled “Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses”. Their two singles, “Lip Gloss and Black” and “Ain't Love Grand” came with music videos. Atreyu started to become popular when the video of “Lip Gloss and Black” had a very significant airplay in the “Headbangers Ball” on 2003.

In 2004, they have also released their second album, “The Curse”. This album has become a bog hit since about 450, 000 copies were sold. The band was also the one who sang “You Give Love A Bad Name” (a song by Bon Jovi) in the soundtrack of the popular movie, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. They have sang soundtracks of other movies and they have appeared in a certain racing video game.

Their third album is named “A death Grip on Yesterday. It was launched two years after their second one. The album sold 69,000 copies and landed the number 9 position in the Billboard 200. The popularity of this band was further boosted when their song, “Exs and Ohs” was included in the soundtrack of Madden NFL '07.

The following year, they released their 4th album entitled “Lead Sails Paper Anchor” and placed 8th on the Billboard 200. In 2009, they released their fifth album- “Congregation of the Damned”.
