About Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is a rock band from Washington. The band was formed in 1987 by Layne Staley (vocals) and Jerry Cantrell (lead guitarist and lyricist of the band). The primary lineup of the band includes Mike Starr (bassist) and Sean Kinney (drummer). The bassist of the band was replaced in 1993 and Mike Inez joined the band as bassist.

The band has been in favor of dark and bitter lyrics. Their lyrics contain drugs, anger, death and aggressive scenes which are similar to Metallica and Megadeath. The band was formed by Layne Staley while studying in school. He met Jerry Cantrell in 1987. The two members started practicing. By managing a primary lineup the band went to sign with Columbia Records. Soon the band released a promotional EP, “We Die Young”. And by 1991, the band came up with the first successful album, “Face Lift”. The album was perfect and sold millions of copies. The album contains "Man in the Box” which was Grammy-nominated.

Their next album, “Dirt” became a platinum album in the year 1992. This album sold more than 3 million copies. The popularity of the band soon gave them chances to tour in many places. The band had been under some critical appreciation because of drugs. Staley might have been an addicted for some time and the lyrics were also indicating that the band members were indulged into drugs. "Junkhead" as well as "Angry Chair” from “Dirt” had impressions of mental illness and fatigue.

In 1993, Dirt became a double-platinum album. But the next album, “Jar of Flies” seemed to rock everybody. This album was second acoustic EP to even top Billboard charts. But “Alice in Chains” was comparatively got huge popularity than “Jar of Flies”. “Alice in Chains” was released in 1995. The next albums include Black Gives Way to Blue and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. “Alice in Chains” sold over fourteen million albums in the US and over thirty five million internationally.
