About A Perfect Circle

In a relatively short time, A Perfect Circle evolved from a side-project to a real super band. The group was formed in 1997, when Maynard Keenan’s Tool had legal problems. To distract from these routine issues, he called his ex-guitar technician Billy Howerdell to play something more melodic than Tool. Joining of Troy Van Leeuwen, Paz Lenchantin and the drummer Josh Freese nailed it, and the band was ready. Howerdell was composing the music while Keenan was responsible for the lyrics.

For more than two years, A Perfect Circle were preparing the material for their first album. Meanwhile, the Tool’s fans were getting more and more eager to hear the new project’s release. Finally, in August 1999, the band appeared in public for the first time with their debut concert in Los Angeles. Next year the Mer De Noms was released. This set of epic and surrealistic compositions was warmly met by the fans. The album was sold in thousands of copies, only in the US in was more than 250000. And while the fans were enjoying it, Keenan went on working with Tool.

The other musicians of A Perfect Circle did not waste time and took part in other projects. By the time the second album was started, the members changed. Twiggy Ramirez from Marilyn Manson was the bass-guitarist now, and the second guitar was taken by James Iha. Thirteenth Step came out in 2003. This time, the band moved from melodic pop-metal towards gothic. The concept of the album was to explore the dark sides of a human soul. The quality of it was high as usual, and the album again was a success.

The band has toured over many places and participated in many big concerts. It went to hiatus in 2004. The band has been working and experimenting with some new materials and soon it plans to produce new albums and more singles which Keenan expressed in one of his interviews. The band practices and composes regularly. A Perfect Circle has got a huge number of fans around the world. Its latest big participation was in a concert at

in 2013.
