Among a variety of genres, styles and trends of the modern music for the past few decades in Russia there has been established and is being confidently developed a new genre – a poetic song. A genre, that has combined in itself poetry, music and the most important – the individuality of the performer. Elena Frolova is one of the striking representatives of this cultural phenomenon in modern Russia.
Elena Frolova is a Russian singer, poet and composer. She was born in Riga, Latvia. She writes songs based on the poetry of great Russian poets of the beginning and the end of the ХХ century: Marina Tsvetayeva, Anna Akhmatova. Osip Mandelshtam, Andrey Belyj, Mikhail Kuzmin, Joseph, Brodskiy, Veniamin Blazhennyj, Leonid Gubanov, and also based on her own poetry. Frolova uses a 6-string guitar as an accompaniment instrument. In 1996 she mastered *gusli that contributed to her repertoire Russian spiritual verse and Russian folk songs.
Perpetual searcher Frolova. She can be different. She is a reflective narrator in the Russian spiritual verse, she is an anxious observer in “The clouds are passing by” by Brodskiy, she suffers, calls out and comforts in the poetry of Tsvetayeva, she is a lyric, vulnerable and loving soul in her own works. She is unique in her capability to hear melody of the Silver Age poetry and to bring it to her audience with her voice and guitar fingering. She is the owner of the keenest ear enabling to find the most accurate intonation and musical colour for any poetic line. No note of false, no word of lie.
It has been for a long time now that the voice of Elena Frolova belongs to both Russian and the world song culture. Virtuosity of playing the instruments and amazing voice of Frolova won the audience in various countries of the world.
